Congratulations on reaching this far. If you are frustrated, irritated, bear in mind that only a few weeks more and you will enter into motherhood. You smart baby inside has all the senses developed though you may feel a bit absent-minded every now and then. Don’t worry about that you will be back to your senses soon. It is said that the pregnancy brain lets the mothers be a bit dumb. However, some believe in this, others don’t, either way, you are the same person and you don’t need to worry at all. The reasons to forget everything are many during this stage of your pregnancy as you have some things on your mind.
Your baby at 31 weeks is 16.2-16.4 inches in length And weighs around 3.3 pounds. It is now as large as an asparagus bunch. The breathlessness you feel is because of the bigger baby now who is crowding your lungs so you don’t need to worry much. All you need is rest.
31 weeks of pregnancy makes around 7months, meaning only two months more to go. However, always keep in mind that the track of your pregnancy kept by your OB is in weeks. It’s better you also monitor your pregnancy time in weeks rather than months.
By now all the symptoms you have felt so far will be stronger such as swelling, breathlessness, and restlessness. The symptoms in this week and the coming weeks will be stronger sometimes and bearable the other times. However, the symptoms that will definitely hit you by the 31st week of your pregnancy are as follows:
As your baby is growing the breathlessness that was already there before may worsen now. However, it is recommended for mothers to walk a bit. Make sure to take breaks and rest in between the walks.
The false contractions also known as Braxton Hicks contractions are very common in this week and the coming weeks. However keep an eye on the contractions you have in an hour. Changing positions and drinking water will help ease out the contractions.
Baby’s food is being prepared even before its arrival. The breasts may start to leak a liquid known as colostrum. You don’t have to worry about this as this is completely normal.
By now you must be familiar with how crowded everything is inside of you. The growing baby is pushing everything aside which is putting pressure on your organs. Pressure on the bladder will make you visit the washroom frequently. All you can do is mentally prepare yourself for these frequent visits.
You will need a moisturizing oil for your nails as in pregnancy many moms-to-be have dry and brittle nails. Don’t worry about this too, it will go away once you deliver your baby.
With frequently going to the restroom to pee and the weight you have on your belly, sleeping may look like a dream to you. Sleeplessness is common in the later days of pregnancy. However, it is suggested to keep changing positions until you find the ultimate comfortable one.
As you move ahead towards your due date, your back, legs, and everything will start to ache. You can do kegel exercises and other yoga exercises to relax yourself and feel better.
your belly and baby’s position at 31st weeks
You will gain weight every week now. This week you must gain 21-27 pounds. However, if you have twins it may vary from 27 to 42 pounds. This week your baby is most probably head down ready to get out in a few more weeks. As you and your baby are getting ready for labor the doctor will thoroughly check you for any complications.
The fetus is now under brain development. Their nerves are developing too. If you could see your baby, you can easily see their eyes, and their irises now have the ability to catch the light. Also, all the senses of your baby are also developed by now. Most probably, if you don’t have any complications then you will not be visiting your OB. However, mommies-to-be with complications or twins may go for a checkup to see if everything is ok or not.
Not to mention, if you’re really keen to see your baby, you can opt for a 4D or 3D ultrasound scan. In the scan you can easily see the baby’s face and also you see the baby move in 3D too. More exciting about the scan is that you can see your baby blink, sucking its thumb, and also he may smile or frown according to what it feels inside. Many OBs offer these ultrasound scans to the parents themselves. However, if they don’t, you can get it done in a private clinic. Keep in mind these ultrasounds are not covered in your insurance so before you opt for it do have a look at the budget you have.
Your baby is now all ready to meet you once it’s out. It has developed fully inside. All it needs now is to gain a bit more weight in the coming weeks before it arrives in the world.
The tips of this week are as follows:
Nursing pads are important after the delivery definitely. However, if you have a leakage of colostrum right now it’s the right time to order them and then you can use them after the delivery too.
As you are full of aches, it is important for you to go for some exercises that require stretching so that you can relax a bit. You can rest against a wall to relax your back. Stretch your calf muscles to relieve the pain in your legs. You can also search for different exercises that will help you have less pain than usual.
With already frequent visits to the restroom to pee, it is necessary that you take action and don’t do things that aggravate the situation. Consumption of coffee or tea will let you have a few more visits than you usually have. They are diuretics and cause more urination.
Take prenatal classes, or take a small course on youtube to make yourself familiar with the series of events that may take place at the time of labor. You can always practice inhaling and exhaling which will help you practice the labor when it comes and also right now will help with your breathlessness.
This week your to-do list is not that big however make sure:
