24 Weeks Pregnant

This week your baby will get stable however you, on the other hand, will have to face a lot of symptoms and may also start to be a little uncomfortable with what’s happening around you. Backaches, cramps, swelling all of these will hit you all together. Nevertheless, this shall pass too is the only thing you should keep in your mind to keep moving forward and staying positive.

Your baby at 24th Week

Your baby this week is as big as an Ear Of Corn.  your baby is now around 1.2 to 1.3 pounds in weight and is 11.7-11.8 inches long.

How many months are you pregnant at 24 weeks?

Before we move on to the months you are pregnant, make sure you keep a track of your pregnancy in terms of weeks rather than months. Furthermore, you in your 24th week have entered the sixth month of your pregnancy. Woohoo, this means three more months to go now.

Your Belly at 24 Weeks

The kicks will be prominent from this week. they will start to be stronger with time and soon your partner will also be able to feel the movements if he puts the hands on your belly.  you have by now put on weight of up to 14-17 pounds. However, if your weight is about higher than the normal BMI that’s ok too don’t worry your doctor will keep you informed about the normal ranges of the weight gain.

The ultrasound at 24 weeks pregnant

The position of your baby in the 24th week is upright. there’s a chance that the baby is transverse or sideways positioned which will make you super uncomfortable. Don’t worry this won’t be the position as the movements increase the position of the baby will also vary from hour to hour and day today.

Your baby now has skin that is more opaque now because of the capillaries that have started to form around your baby.  Furthermore, there will be a list of tests that you will be asked to perform this week.

Medical Care this Week

  • Routine Prenatal Visit: You would have your routine prenatal visit this week which shall include providing your urine sample, examining your body for swelling, listening to the baby’s heartbeat, taking your weight and blood pressure as well as talking to you about your symptoms.
  • Glucose Screening Test: It is also during this period you would be screened for gestational diabetes which includes a detailed medical history of your family.
  • Upcoming Doctor’s Visits: Your next routine prenatal visit will be in the 28 weeks, the third trimester.

With this week your baby is putting more and more weight to accumulate the baby fat along with the growth of muscles and bones. Your baby’s auditory system is rapidly developing which means that if you are hearing a certain song frequently, it might become her favorite too once he/she is born. The eyelashes, eyebrows, and hair of your baby are still to acquire color.

You must have noticed numbness in your wrists and fingers, this is caused due to carpal tunnel syndrome. As you know a lot of swelling happens during pregnancy which causes the fluids to accumulate in the lower extremities which are then distributed to your hands when you are lying down. This dull ache and numbness is called carpal tunnel syndrome. Another common symptom that you would notice is your hand turning red and itchy. This is common in the third trimester, but you should call your doctor to make him aware of this symptom.

Pregnancy Symptoms at 24 weeks:

There will be loads of symptoms starting from this week. Here is a list of the symptoms you will have to deal with from this week onwards.

Symptoms                                       

  • Constipation: The pregnancy hormones cause the intestinal muscles to relax to keep the digestive system longer so that the baby can absorb more nutrients. This slows the digestion process so drink lots of water to help things digest in a better way.
  • Lower Abdominal Aches: Since your uterus is growing, it is stretching too which can cause some pain. Occasional lower abdominal pain is normal however if there are other symptoms like fever and bleeding with it, you have to see your doctor.
  • Blurred Vision: Pregnancy hormones can decrease tear production causing eye irritation and temporarily altering your vision. Generally, this would become normal after delivery, so just wait till then.
  • Migraines: Sometimes during pregnancy, headaches are common. However, if you are finding your headache to last days accompanied by nausea and vision changes, let your doctor know about this and prescribe proper migraine medications accordingly.
  • Leg Cramps: It is really quite painful and uncomfortable and you should start certain calf stretches before it becomes a problem. You can also have certain magnesium supplements so as to reduce such occurrences. However, make sure you talk to your doctor before having it.
  • Swollen feet: Due to fluid pooling around your legs, it generally swells up. Ask your doctor about it and try elevating your legs when you are sitting.

Tips for your 24th-week pregnancy

Tips are necessary to follow so that you can cope up with the symptoms that can get really disturbing for you.

  • Exercise

exercises will relax your muscles and you will this way be preparing yourself for the delivery. you need to perform a few Kegel exercises so that the risk of tearing reduces.

  • Obey your OB/G

keep following your doctors’ advice or rather orders to maintain your pregnancy and keep up the pace even if there are any complications. the doctor will deal with them easily only if you follow his or her advice properly.

  • Eat healthily

heartburn is one of the things that will make you super uncomfortable this week and in the coming weeks. you can avoid this by eating food that is less spicy or fatty food.

  • Try to keep away from keepsake ultrasounds from any pop store.
  • Try and prepare yourself for the next prenatal appointment.
  • Research about a postpartum doula.
  • Continue your daily exercises.
  • Talk to your doctor about your symptoms.
