11 Weeks Pregnant

Childbirth is more admirable than conquest, more amazing than self-defense, and as courageous as either one.

Congratulations on reaching your 11th week of pregnancy. This is also the best time to start planning for your babymoon. We suggest that you go on this romantic trip with your partner in the second trimester. So, start planning. Also, you should be re-lived as you will be soon completing your first trimester and getting rid of those early pregnancy symptoms.

Your baby at 11th Week

Stepping into the 11th week of pregnancy, your baby will be around 1.5 inches. By week 11, your baby’s distinct characteristics, like the ears, will be getting a final shape, nasal passages, tongue, mouth palate, and if it’s a girl, the ovaries will be developing. Since your baby is also showing rapid growth during this period, there will be certain changes that you, too, will be experiencing, so let us go through that.

How many months are you pregnant at 11 weeks?

Generally, the doctor tracks your pregnancy by weeks not months. However,  if you want to know your exact month, you are now about two months and three weeks pregnant and will soon complete the first trimester. Since your baby is growing and experiencing certain changes you will also experience certain symptoms

Pregnancy Symptoms at 11 weeks:

  • Frequent visits to the washroom: During this period, you will have increased urination; this is due to the pregnancy hormone HCH, which increases the blood flow in the pelvic area and kidneys, leading to frequent urination. This is normal, don’t worry about it. All you can do is reduce the intake of caffeinated drinks as it induces more urination. But do keep yourself hydrated and don’t reduce your fluid intake.
  • Tender Breasts: Generally, during this period, you will having tender and sore boobs, which is quite painful. This can make your partner desire some love-making, but do make them understand that you might not be comfortable with your achy breasts.
  • Morning Sickness: Nausea or morning sickness is really tiring. Yes, it may continue even now but don’t worry, within a week, it will leave you. Stay hydrated as much as possible during this time.
  • Specific Food Preferences and Aversions: This differs from person to person but generally, if you are preferring meat and you are vegetarian or hating meat, if you are non-vegetarian, relax; this is common. Eventually, these changes will be toned down by the end of your fourth month.
  • Bloating: During this time, progesterone may cause the gastrointestinal tract to relax, leading to slow digestion, which makes you feel bloated. To reduce this, do include some exercises in your everyday chart so that your body keeps moving. Apart from this, you can also try eating small meals frequently rather than eating all at once, which will also help you to reduce bloating.
  • Dizziness: As you step into the 11th week of pregnancy, your body might not produce enough blood for expanding your circulatory system, thereby leading to dizziness. If you feel dizzy, you can try and keep your head between your knees and inhaling deeply. However, if it is occurring quite frequently, so make sure you contact your medical expert and seek the appropriate guidance.

Your belly at 11 weeks

By the 11th week, you will start seeing your lower abdomen protruding slightly. However, it will vary with different mothers as some might develop it a little later. Since your digestion will be slowed down and you experience bloating so, you will burp and pass gas frequently. Sounds funny, but it is quite common. Also, pregnancy fatigue is quite common during this period since both the baby and the placenta are growing during this period. In order to avoid this fatigue, you can engage in some carbs and proteins like crackers and nuts. However, when you feel that you are really exhausted, do take a break to relax and calm down.

The ultrasound at the 11th week of pregnancy

Between week 11 and 14 you will be getting your first-trimester scan which is a combination of special ultrasound called a Nuchal Translucency Screening and blood test. It is also this week’s ultrasound your doctor will measure the back of the baby’s neck. For women who are pregnant with twins, an ultrasound at this point would show the babies’ umbilical cord and either one or two placentae.

  • Nuchal Translucency Test: Your prenatal screening will continue this week with a nuchal translucency test. This test is used for measuring the fluid-filled space behind the baby’s neck. If the measurement is greater than expected, your baby could have a genetic disorder.
  • First Trimester Screening: The first-trimester screening is almost over with the nuchal translucency test. Apart from this, a routine blood test is also done so as to gather more information.
  • Upcoming Visits: Your second monthly prenatal visit with your OB might be in the next week, and in most circumstances, they will discuss chromosome abnormality screening.

11th Week Pregnancy Tips

  • Fun with Yoga: Prenatal Yoga is really wonderful as it will make you feel relaxed and also reduces the chances of premature birth. Make yourself relaxed with a once-a-week yoga session.
  • Have your essential Vitamin C: It is very important that you have sufficient doses of vitamin C as it is important for a baby’s healthy birth weight and decreases any chances for premature rupture of membranes. Try drinking a lot of orange juice along with fruits like mango, strawberries, broccoli, etc.
  • Floss your teeth: Generally, in the upcoming weeks, you might have inflamed gums, so start flossing your teeth and keep them clean so as to prevent such incursions.
  • Calcium Intake: Help your baby to grow strong bones and teeth by including 1000 milligrams of calcium. Try and include more dairy products in your diet like milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. You can also get calcium from other sources like almonds, salmon, and eggs
