Firstly, welcome to the second trimester. The 14th week of pregnancy marks some changes like you might feel less nauseous and more energetic. Since you are more energetic now, it is time to get some pregnancy exercises done

Your baby at 14th Week

You have now stepped into the second trimester of your pregnancy. This week is indeed special as your baby is developing facial muscles to smile. This is also the time when your baby has completely developed its genitals; however, you have to wait for some time to know whether it’s a princess or a prince. Your baby is now about 57 grams and is currently around 9-10 cm. Since your baby is developing so many changes, your body will also respond to it through different symptoms. So let’s check it

14th Week Pregnancy Months

Most people have this common perception that pregnancy lasts for nine months but is actually 40 weeks long. So, technically 14 weeks pregnant means that you are in your third month of your pregnancy and beginning your second trimester

Pregnancy Symptoms at 14 weeks

  • Decreasing Fatigue: Since you have stepped to the second trimester and your body has adjusted to the growth of the baby and the placenta, you feel less fatigued than before, thereby giving you a speck of energy.
  • Breast Growth: During the second trimester, your breasts will keep on growing; however, your nipples may not be that achy as they were in the first trimester.
  • Increase in your Appetite: Since you feel less nauseous than before, you will have an increased appetite in your second trimester, So do eat regular and healthy meals throughout the day, keeping your energy and blood sugar stable.
  • Visible Varicose Veins: These are swollen blood vessels that may be visible on your legs; now this is caused as your body is producing the extra volume of your blood in order to nourish your baby properly.
  • Stuffy Nose: Generally, high levels of progesterone and estrogen increases the flow of blow to mucous membranes, thereby making the nose swell. In order to keep your nose clean, especially during sleep, try to use a warm mist humidifier as it will help you to breathe easily.
  • End to Morning Sickness: Well, as you step into the second trimester of your pregnancy, you will be slowly be relived of your morning sickness.
  • Thicker hair: You might notice that your hair is getting thicker and this is one effect of your pregnancy that you really love.
  • Round Ligament Pain: You might feel some ache and pain as your muscles and ligaments are stretching out. Generally this is a common symptom but if you have any concern do ask your doctor regarding it.

These are some of the common symptoms that you will be noticing as you step into the second trimester.

Your belly at 14 weeks

 By the 14th week of your pregnancy, you will have quite a prominent pregnancy belly. You can also now feel the top of your uterus, which is known as the fundus. Another thing that most women experience as a result of the growth of their uterus is round ligament pain. Now, these are sharp, achy pain that one experiences on both the side of the abdomen. If you are 14 weeks pregnant your weight gain goal should be a bit more. Also, it is the right time to take prenatal yoga classes as exercise is really beneficial for a 14 week fetus

The ultrasound at 14th week of pregnancy

Generally, there no 14th week ultrasound. You would again have your anatomy scan done around week 18-22.

In the upcoming week, you will have your monthly prenatal visit to your doctor. You will also have an amniocentesis test between week 15 to week 20 if you are opting for it. Generally, you would opt for an amniocentesis under the following conditions

  • You or your partner have a family history of genetic disorders.
  • You had a preliminary screening that indicated a possible issue.
  • You had a baby experiencing such a birth disorder.
  • You will be 35 or above when your baby will be born.

Amniocentesis is not mandatory, and it does carry a very small risk to it. So do talk to your medical expert and be guided with the complete procedure.

14th Week Pregnancy To-Do List

  • Do keep having your prenatal vitamins and eat properly as well as regular meals.
  • If you have excessive energy, then do work out accordingly, but then again, don’t overdo it. Similarly, if you have an enhanced sex drive, indulge in it; it’s completely normal.
  • If you are facing any skin changes, do consult your doctor for the same.
  • You can talk to your partner about finding the best birthing class so as to be prepared from before.
  • Go to maternity clothes shopping since you definitely need some now.

14th Week Pregnancy Tips

  • Preventing sinus infections: When you are pregnant you are more likely to get a nasal congestion. Try to use a humidifier or drink water to lose mucus.
  • Constipation: Since constipation is quote a common pregnancy symptom, try to eat a lot of fiber rich food and lots or water along with regular exercises.
  • Moles: Hormones generally change the appearance of skin moles. It is nothing to worry but do check in with a dermatologist before it grows larger and develops and irregular border on your skin
