27 Weeks Pregnant

A baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years, and in your heart until the day you die.

– Mary Mason

You have almost successfully completed the second trimester and you are about to reach your third semester. Heartily congratulations on reaching this far. We know that there are a lot of struggles for the mom-to-be however, pregnancy gives you a gift that is precious to all-your little human being.

There are again a lot of questions that may arise in your mind related to the birth and the process that follows however, you don’t need to worry if you are prepared ahead everything will fall into its place. This trimester that is ending and the last trimester that is about to come are going to be a bit weirder and harder for you as compared to the ones before it.

Your baby at 27 weeks

your baby is now as big as the head of lettuce. The fetus now is 14.4-14.5 inches long and weighs around 1.8-1.9 pounds. no doubt the little monster inside of you is now getting bigger day by day. Your baby is slowly developing their ear however it is still covered in vernix caseosa which is the waxy protective coating on the skin. Your baby’s lungs are developing and the chance of hiccups increases. Your baby is developing their muscle tone this week which is the reason they are kicking, rolling, and punching.

How many months are you pregnant at 27 weeks?

This week is still six months pregnant but you are almost there ready to reach the 7th month. Make sure you have a record of your pregnancy in weeks.  the doctor will obviously ask for the weeks and keep a track of your pregnancy according to the weeks rather than months.

Pregnancy Symptoms at 27 weeks

Your pregnancy symptoms get weirder from now onwards. However, if you follow the tips we give you everything will be better. Here is a list of things you will have to deal with this week.

Symptoms

  • Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS): You will also start to feel a tingling sensation in your legs with a strong urge to move them. Do ask your doctor for an iron deficiency test, as most experts feel such syndrome is a result of iron deficiency.
  • Dizziness: Since your uterus is growing, this puts pressure on your blood vessels which reduces the blood flow to your brain causing dizziness. Try to relax when you feel so and do exercise with caution so that you don’t hurt yourself.
  • Round Ligament Pain: Generally due to the expanding uterus, you would start feeling a round ligament pain especially an ache when you get off your feet. So always try to shift your position slowly so as to not aggravate the pain.
  • Itchy Belly: Since your belly is stretched, it can become quite itchy. Try to use a moisturizer to reduce this itchiness.
  • Bleeding Gums: The pregnancy hormones cause mucous membranes into your body which can induce your mouth to be swelled, irritated, and bleeding gums. It is very important that you continue flossing and brushing regularly so as to prevent any major disease.

Your belly at 27 weeks

you have gained a weight of 15-29 pounds by now. from now onwards you will be gaining around two or additional pounds every week. the development process of your baby is faster so will your weight gain be too. However, you need to maintain the normal BMI or recommended weight gain throughout your pregnancy so that there is no complication in the end.  you will feel tiny hiccups of the baby together with kicks all the time around your belly.

The ultrasound at the 29th week of pregnancy

Since there is fluid build-up in your body, it can lead to edema which is swelling around your feet and ankles. Since your body is overheated due to pregnancy hormones as well as itchy you might develop some rashes. Do use a moisturizing lotion to soothe your skin. However, with the ultrasound visits, you will have a visit now every two weeks meaning twice a month.  your baby in the ultrasound will have more deposition of fat. With the size increased your baby is now around a foot long with shinier and smoother skin as compared to the previous weeks.

this week you will have to go for some visits and vaccines as following:

  • Whooping Cough Vaccine: You should take the whooping cough vaccine between 27 weeks and 36 weeks. Some of the side effects of the vaccine are pain, redness, body aches, tiredness, and fever. It is important that you get vaccinated as by this your baby will be really protected from the deadly disease.
  • Upcoming Doctor Visits: The next routine prenatal visit will be likely around week 28. The tests at this visit may include a blood test for Rh antibodies next week as well as testing for high-risk pregnancies after week 32.

27 weeks pregnancy tips

  • Keep yourself hydrated

WIth your frequent visits to the restroom, you may think you should reduce the intake of water. However, it is recommended to keep yourself as much hydrated as possible. you can decrease the water intake before going to bed but during the day you need to keep drinking water to keep yourself hydrated.

  • Take help from your close ones

Now is the time to take help from the ones who are close to you or are willing to help you. one of the people you can get help from is your partner.  You can also order pregnancy relaxing stuff like a pregnancy pillow and also buy the maternity pants for your increasing belly.  talk to your friends and your partner to occupy yourself as much as possible so that you do not fall into depression or get frustrated with the situation you are in.

  • Sleep as much as you can

your visits to the washroom and the continuous jabs and kicks will not allow you to have a good night’s sleep. It is recommended that mothers this week should sleep whenever they can so that they can stay active and get less stressed because of not sleeping in the nighttime.

To-Do List this Week

  • Try to eat healthy meals including foods that are really high in fibre.
  • Try to drink a lot of healthy fluids.
  • Add fibre, and magnesium-rich food to your grocery list.
