A lost phone

hill station

Last winter I went to Landour, a beautiful “less commercialized” hill station near Mussoorie. Now, those of you who are quite familiar with the demography of the area, you would know that Mussoorie is titled the Queen of hill stations. So here I would say, that Landour is the tiara of that queen.

I was staying in a youth hostel in there and one fine morning, after having our breakfast of typical Pahad wali Maggi and chai, we started our trek to a nearby spot. It was a group of 5 people, including one guide.

SO a little bit about me: I am Anubha, 23 years old(then), and pursuing my post-graduation from Delhi. I am originally from Agra, a place well know for a symbol of love- the Taj Mahal. I believe in fairy tales and Prince Charming. Yeah, call me old-fashioned, but I really believe in it.

This trip was a part of my recently developed rebellious nature and my parents had no idea. It was just me and my roommate from Delhi along with 2 random strangers and a guide. I was in fact trekking for the first time and I found it a little difficult.

Clearly the most difficult was the vertical stretch of 1 km and where’s as everyone was pretty eased up, I was struggling for breath, I fell down and my phone came tumbling down out of my pocket. Thanks to the Ashwini. He picked it up and picked me up too. Ashwini was a local of that area, he was our guide. As we all swerve returning back, Ashwini chose to walk at my pace and we started talking. One thing led to another and we decided to meet again in the night, where he will show me Landour in a local way.

It was pretty late in the evening by the time we returned back. The following day was our return, and we had so much to pack. So as soon as we returned back to the hostel, I and Sharvi started packing stuff. I was having a very different feeling. I wanted to talk to someone if I should or should not. But Sharvi was not the one.

By the time we finished packing, it was 9 pm and Sharvi was too tired to even go downstairs to have dinner, so she slept off. I was secretly very happy about this.

I went downstairs and saw Ashwini waiting for me on his bike. He was wearing a black leather jacket and he had a little stubble which just made him look a little more mature than he was. I quickly grabbed the backseat and we started the journey. He showed me Landour and returned back the phone that was fallen during the trek and I had no recall of it.

The next day, while in the bus, I was going through the pictures that I have taken during the trip, I came across a video. A video which I never made. It was Ashwini. It was him, telling me that he felt special when he was with me. He said that it was like love at first sight even though he doesn’t believe in all that. He also mentioned how he would love to have a future with me. And I was shocked. I was happy, but I was shocked. I barely could forget the scent of his hair while we were on the bike, and now this. What could have I done? I didn’t even have his number.

There was this sense of restlessness now. And I had no idea what to do now? We waited to reach Delhi and then my mission of searching Ashwini started. It took me just 15 minutes to reach him. Thanks to social media. And that’s how it all started.

After 2 years, I moved to Landour after completing my master’s. And now we have a cafe here. If ever you come here, do visit us.

And yes, we are not married. We live together, we love each other and right now we are partners, both personal and professional.
