10 Principles That Every Good Parent Should Follow

10 Principles That Every Good Parent Should Follow

Parenting is indeed a very important task. As a parent, you are the ideal for your kids, so it is highly important that you exhibit good parenting principles that will shape the kid’s childhood and help him/her develop a vision for life. Following are some of the principles that we are going to enlist so that you understand some of the fundamentals of good parenting

Do as you say:

This means that your words that you say to your kids should be in tandem with your actions; otherwise, practically, it is of no value. Children at their young age replicate each and everything they see around themselves. So be sure whatever you do around them. You should check upon your actions. E.g., many parents indulge in smoking in front of their kids, which is a worse practice. So always try to portray good habits in front of them.

Substituting time with gifts:

It is often said that materialistic love cannot be considered real, and it is the same for your kids. You cannot buy them tons of toys and dresses and try to replace them with your time. You indeed adhere to your work commitments, but you are a parent too. The hugs, kisses, comfort on your lap are gestures that can never be replaced with presents. Always try to give them ample time so that they feel a sense of love and affection.

Be Dynamic:

Your child grows from an infant to a toddler and then to a teen, so as a parent, you need to change your parenting attitude with them. If you feel that the parenting attitude with an infant and a toddler is almost the same, it is never so. When a child is an infant, he learns things for the first time just from the basic. But when your child is a toddler or slowly nearing his pre-teens, he/she needs you as an active parent who helps them with their activities or works with them as a team. Most children often feel that their parents are not their true confidant; this happens because of a parenting gap. A very important element of good parenting is you become your child’s best friend and understand them to the core of their bone.

Parenting Rules:

There must be some basic rules that, as parents, you should lay down for every family member in the house. These should be primarily related to mealtime, a sleepover with friends, duties, and tasks. It is important that you work out such rules in a systematic fashion. These are important as it builds a sense of duty and responsibility within a child.

Being Consistent:

Parenting requires time and patience, so make sure you are always consistent with what you say. As we mentioned above that there should be some ground rules; in this case, consistency should be that there should be no exceptions to such rules except in emergency circumstances. It is important that you take a strict stand as it will help the kid to understand the importance of discipline,

Make your child self-regulating:

Most parents feel that children, if given independence from a young age, will be harmful to them. But it is never the case, as a child is growing up, he would need a certain level of freedom, and as a parent, you should always provide them that so that they can self-analyze and regulate themselves.

No Physical Punishments:

Apologizing to kids:

Sometimes, as parents, we feel that we have the upper hand, so even if we have done something wrong, we try to cover them up in front of our kids.  But don’t do that, they are kids, and they understand you. If you commit something wrong, you can always say sorry to them.

Explain and don’t command:

Parents are often in the habit of commanding their children, but well, that is again the wrong way. If you want your kid to do a certain thing explain to them why it needs to be done. E.g., If you don’t want them to have excessive candies, explain to them why it needs to be done, which will make them realize it, and they may follow it dutifully.

Respect:

Always try to create a bond with your childhood where you respect your child. As we mentioned above, kids learn everything from their parents. E.g., if they are saying something, always pay attention to them. If you do so, they will definitely learn from you and display the same behavior
