Parenting Kids by Dr Dad

When your child is growing, you must make him learn the essential discipline in life. Agree with it, or not chores play a significant role to shape your kids’ character and inculcate within them a sense of responsibility and integrity. This post will give you a list of such chore ideas which you can teach your kids to do:

VACUUMING THE FLOOR:

Kids get really excited and love vacuuming. But it is difficult for them at first to use a full-size vacuum cleaner, which will be quite heavy. So, at first give them something handy, so that they can clean cushions and little spaces. This will give them an overall idea, and slowly they can move forward with a full-size vacuuming schedule.

TIDYING AND FOLDING CLOTHES:

This is quite a useful daily chore that you can ask your kids to do. Inculcate within them that this is their clothes and it is their responsibility. So, after washing the clothes, you can separate the adults’ and kid’s clothes, put them in a casket, and hand it over to them. It will take them some time to learn it, explain it adequately to them, and it’s done, don’t worry they will perfect it within some time.

MAKING THE DINING TABLE READY:

Dinner is something which the entire family enjoys together. So, it would help if you inculcated within them to make the dining table ready. If you have two kids make each of them do it on alternative days. Arranging the napkins, plates, water glasses is something that your kid should be able to do. And you won’t believe it, but within a few days, they are really going to ace it.

SWEEPING:

It is also similar to vacuuming. Try to give them the responsibility of sweeping their rooms properly. They would definitely struggle at first but try to make them do it regularly, and it will be an excellent daily chore for them to learn.

CLEANING THE TABLE:

Putting their utensils after meals to the sink top is an important responsibility many parents feel that it’s not right for small kids to do it. But question yourself “Why not?” it is their dishes, and they should be entirely responsible for clearing that after food.

GARDENING:

When your kid is growing to be a toddler, you can teach them gardening by watering the plants in the garden as well as the indoor plants. It is a beneficial habit that you should definitely teach them. It not only makes them disciplined but also to be a responsible citizen believing in sustainable living and taking care of the environment.

TRASH OUT:

Most children, when they become adults, often think that taking the trash out is the responsibility of servants or maids and consider it a menial job. But as parents from a young age always motivate them to segregate trash and taking it out. You can arrange for a routine of alternative days when you and your kid will take the trash out. It makes them understand that every chore in the house is equally important, and each family member should be responsible for it.

BATHROOM CLEANING:

Once in a while, you should also ask your kid to clean the bathroom. Most parents feel that they might skid and hurt themselves while doing it, so for some days, teach them under your supervision, and where they should work with caution. Cleaning mirrors, toilets, soap distributors and mopping the floor are some tasks in the washroom which you can teach.

CLEANING THEIR OWN ROOM:

Have you read the book  “The Berenstain Bears and Messy Room”, if you have, make your child read it too. It is a wonderful book where the kids learn not to make their room a mess. Let your kids pick up their toys, clothes, books and arrange them properly in cabinets. It is their room, and they should be utterly responsible for it. If there are an elder and a younger sibling, both can do it on alternative days or each day of their own sections. It is a really good habit that inculcates necessary discipline within a child.

Conclusion

These are some of the chores that we mentioned, make a chart of it, allocate timings, and set up a chore schedule. Explain it to your kid and help them for the first days. Remember assigning chores to your kid is an excellent way for developing responsibility and discipline within them.
