But in the 2000s, there have been tons of research defining different parenting styles or principles.

Parenting principles may change according to your child’s personality because every child is unique. One principle which might work for one parent may not be for someone else. But parenting is a lifetime thing, and you can fail it sometimes but will also succeed multiple times. It would help if you tried different techniques, principles, and styles for your child. Though there are some universal principles or basic principles from which you can start your parenting journey. If you are a parent for quite a few times and face some obstruction, you can renew your parenting style with basic principles.

1.     Your actions are important.

From a very young age, kids start observing people around them. They learn and act from what they watch. Too much love and pampering can make you take other things for granted, such as your child’s mistakes. Your love and pampering should have a borderline. Too much love can spoil your kid. You need to have the appropriate amount of love and some discipline.

3.     Involvement

Whether you are a mom or a dad, involvement in your child’s life is very important. It makes your child feel important in your life. When you are available to your child now, it is easy for them to confide in you and feel comfortable around you.

4.     Child’s personality = Parenting style

Just because another parent chooses a particular style does not mean that you need to select the same. Your parenting style should depend on your child’s personality is. It should fit your child. It should be noted that parenting style should be changed according to how your kid acts. Parenting should be about evolution and adaptation.

5.     A set of rules and regulations can ease the process.

Specific rules and regulations can help your child maintain discipline and ease the process for you. In addition, rules are important from a very early age which helps your child to inherit good behavior from a tender age.

 

6.     Respect your child’s freedom

You don’t want to be a parent who parades around your child 24 hours. By respecting your child’s freedom, you are ensuring that they don’t feel suffocated around you and they have their own space as well. This also builds confidence and a feeling of independence in your child.

7.     Constant efforts

Parenting is not something that is to be done only at the tender age of your kid; it needs to be done for your whole life. Your kid might need you even they are 20 years old, and that’s when your parenting might help them. Also, you cannot teach your child everything in a matter of a few years; the learning process for you and your child is of a lifetime.

8.     Healthy discipline techniques

If your child breaks certain rules or regulations set by you, punishing them is important, but using healthy discipline techniques such as grounding them or time out are non-aggressive techniques.

9.     Explanation to your kids

Certain actions or rules of yours may be wrong according to your kids or not acceptable by them. You need to explain yourself and make them understand why this action or decision was necessary. Then, ensure that you are not imposing such decisions or rules on them that are not reasonable.

10.  You give respect; you earn respect.

Every parent should keep in mind that respect is a two-way process. You give your child respect; you earn it from them as well. If you speak to them with kindness and politeness, you will get it in return as well.
