My child doesn’t sleep through the night. These seven things helped me a lot.

Child Sleep At Night

A child comes across a variety of things in his everyday life. Each day is a new beginning to an adventurous ride. They are always on a quest to do something new. Schools, games, and family time become a part of their everyday life. The majority of kids are very enthusiastic and are very difficult to handle. To keep them physically healthy and match up to their spirit as a parent, we need to ensure they receive the right amount of food. Now along with food, another critical aspect is sleep.

Whether big or small, everybody needs to rest and get a good sleep quality for a well-functioning body. Sleep fully charges our body and prepares us for another day of adventure. With so many happenings in a kid’s life, we must do our best to keep them healthy and fit.

My son couldn’t get proper sleep at night, and I was worried about him, and then I came across 7 things that helped me a lot.

  1. Stick to a routine.

Good habits like sleeping early and waking up early are genuinely beneficial for humans. It is essential to have a fixed sleeping time for kids. Let us assume 10 pm and 7 am, as parents should ensure kids sleep by 10 pm and wake up by 7 am. Once they get habitual to this pattern, it will help them in time management and distress sleeping patterns due to fluctuating timings.

  1. No electronic gadgets before sleeping

The rapid increase in technology has driven more and more kids towards it. Even 2year olds today are on mobile phones playing games. As parents, we don’t realize the bad effects of this habit and consider it a mode of distraction for kids. Do not give your child any electronic items before sleeping. Make sure they are away from all electronic modes. The blue light emitted by your phone screen suppresses melatonin production, the hormone that regulates your sleep-wake cycle. As a result, it is considerably more difficult to fall asleep and wake up the next day.

  1. No caffeine

Do not give your child any sort of drinks that contain caffeine in them. It is not good for their health plus if given before bedtime disturbs their sleep. If your kids are hungry before sleeping, give them very light meals or warm milk. Avoid giving them soft drinks or heavy meals right before bedtime.

  1. Reduce stress levels before going to bed.

When we stress our body produces a hormone called cortisol. When your child stresses the level of cortisol in their body increases, making it difficult for them to sleep properly at night. When parents fight in front of them, they develop all sorts of thoughts in their mind which if not communicated, keep revolving, altering their stress levels. Try maintaining a peaceful environment at home.

  1. Physical exercise

Allow your kids to play in their daytime, keep them physically active. The more they engage in activities and play, the less energy they have at night. In addition, the entire day’s tiredness and fun will put them to sleep quickly.

  1. Comfort

Kids often get bad dreams; these dreams don’t let them sleep peacefully at night. In case of such a situation, you as a parent should stay beside your child and comfort them assuring them everything is alright. A sense of comfort can reduce their worries and put them back to sleep.

  1. Look out for sleep disorders

If your child is following proper sleeping schedules and doing all the right things mentioned above and is still unable to sleep, he might have a sleeping disorder. Therefore, keep a close eye on them and observe their sleeping patterns and consult with your doctor as soon as possible.
