– One of the many reasons for fetal hiccups is the fetus trying to figure out new things and trying to breathe. Hiccups can be considered a good sign because it means that the development of the fetus’s diaphragm is going well.

– The hiccups also mean that there is development in the nerve system. It indicates that the brain and spinal cord are also working well. Fetal hiccups suggest that the baby’s cerebral development is progressing to the point where they can sustain outside the womb.

– Baby is also attempting suckling, thumb-sucking, and yawning in addition to breathing. All of these activities can also lead to fetal hiccups.

Again, to mention that fetal hiccups are typical, but if you feel excessive fetal hiccups or are worried about it, you can see a doctor and have an ultrasound or sonography.

It should be noted that fetal hiccups are not felt regularly, so as a pregnant woman, if you feel fetal hiccups regularly, then you should consult the doctor. Many reports say that a pregnant lady would rarely feel the fetal hiccups after 32 weeks. So, if you still feel the fetal hiccups, then consult a doctor. As per some studies, it is said that fetal hiccups may increase when the umbilical cord is compressed. If there is a problem with the umbilical cord, your doctor will notice it and will advise you according to the issue. But keeping all of the studies aside if you still are worried about the fetal hiccups, see your gynecologist as she can assist you more and explain you more, thus eliminating your tension.

Other than fetal hiccups, babies do many other things in the womb such as –

A baby can see everything in the womb as they develop their eyes in the first trimester. In the second trimester, they develop a sense of hearing and can pretty much hear some voices outside the womb. Other than all of these things, there is kicking, thumb sucking, sleeping, twisting, and turning. These activities are normal for a baby to do in the womb.
