Is bleeding during pregnancy ok?

bleeding during pregnancy

Pregnancy is the most special feeling but even the slightest change in the body makes pregnant women doubt the safety of their babies. Bleeding during pregnancy is one such thing. It is better that you know the causes so that you can visit the doctor if there’s anything abnormal.

Bleeding during the first trimester

During the first trimester, bleeding is quite natural and common.

Implantation Bleeding

  • Women might experience spotting between the next 6 to 12 days from the day they have conceived the baby.
  • Most women mistake implantation bleeding like a light period or the start of the next period cycle.

Miscarriage

  • It is one of the most common concerns when a woman is pregnant.
  • The 12 weeks of every pregnancy is very crucial because the chances of miscarriage are highest during that time.
  • Although, not all bleeding necessarily means miscarriage.

Ectopic Pregnancy

  • Even though it’s rare, it still occurs in women, where the fertilized embryo is planted in the fallopian tube.
  • Since the embryo is outside the uterus, there are high chances of the fallopian tube bursting and harming the pregnant woman.

Second trimester and third trimester

Bleeding in the second or third trimester could be fatal.

Placenta previa

  • The placenta sits at the lower part of the uterus and blocks the birth canal.
  • Even though the bleeding might be painless, it requires medical attention.

Placental abruption

  • Although rare, the placenta gets separated from the uterus wall.
  • This causes blood to pool in between the uterus and placenta.
  • This condition is fatal for both the mother and the baby.

Vasa Previa

  • The growing baby’s blood vessels in either the placenta or the umbilical cord cross the birth canal’s opening.
  • The chance of blood vessel tearing is quite high thus it can be fatal for the baby.

Conclusion

If you know the cause of bleeding during pregnancy, then you can act accordingly.
