How can parents enjoy their child’s adolescence?

child’s adolescence

Adolescence is the time when a person develops from a child to an adult. The age from 10 to 19 years is generally considered adolescent age. Generally, parents are stressed the most for their child in these particular years, as these years can determine their future and shape them into a specific person. But here is a tip for parents rather than stressing about your child’s development era, you can enjoy it and be optimistic about it. Ron taffel rightly said that ‘Even as kids reach adolescence, they need more than ever for us to watch over them. Adolescence is not about letting go. It’s about hanging on during a very bumpy ride.’

Rather than trying to mold your child into a particular person you want, you can ease the process by seeing what your child wants.

There are many ways in which you can enjoy your kid’s adolescence. Some of the ways to start with are –

Transformation to a friend

Your kids have seen you as parents and give respect to that and maybe even keep boundaries. In their adolescent age, you can be their friends and understand what they are experiencing, help them into their problems or enjoy with them in their victories or happiness. As a friend, you can ask them how they feel about this child-to-adult journey. If they start seeing you as a friend, they will come up to you more often and let themselves allow you into their space.

Talk through

Don’t forget to check in on your kid’s day; ask them how their day went. Have few conversations in the entire, it maybe during dinner time or you all can decide upon a fixed chill time. By this, your kid will know that you are interested in their life and respects their space as well. By this, you can also figure out the opinions of your child and maybe their future goals.

Do activities together

You can all be indulged in activities such as fitness classes, dance classes, etc., whatever your kids like, and have bonding sessions. By this, you can also develop a hobby or a healthy habit together. You can also enjoy things in this process rather than being the parent who always is under stress. For example, you can maybe go together to your child’s favorite singer’s concert or binge-watch shows together; by doing this, you will also get to know about your child’s preferences.

Respect their moments

Whether it is success or failure, learn to accept it and respect it. You need to respect and trust their growth. This will help you become supportive as well. It will let your kid know that no matter what, you will always be there for them. So rather than judging them for their failures or taking their success for granted, which can lead to arguments, you respect their decisions which will help you all stay calm.

Involve them in decision making

Teen kids are developing and have different and new opinions from what parents have. You can include your teen kid in some household decisions or problems; their opinion on the matter can even find a solution for the issue you were facing. You can have the advantage of the new generation thinking of your kid.

You can start to use these ways so you can begin to enjoy your kids teen adolescent age from the start, and even if you are in the middle of your kid’s adolescent journey and fed up with stressing over,  you can change your parenting style by using these ways and starting enjoying it.
