Can children get Covid-19 vaccine yet?

There’s a lot of debate going on in the world about vaccination. Whereas most of the countries have started with the first wave of vaccination and other countries are on the verge of starting the vaccination, the world is confronted with the big question:

Can children be vaccinated yet?

Can we give the vaccine to children?

This question has been asked to us via in-numerous emails and truth to be told the answer is not very direct.

Children appear to be less affected by COVID-19 and even when they do get infected, many asymptomatic cases occur. What we all are worried about is that they can be carriers and can infect the population at risk-their parents, grandparents, and teachers. Thus, it is imperative that children should be vaccinated so that they can get immunity and do not spread the virus. But this cannot be done sometime soon.

Why we can’t give the COVID-19 vaccine to children straight away?

In most of the trial studies, children were not involved. So to determine if these vaccines are safe or not for children researchers need some time. They need to examine the dosage, the gap between the two doses. According to some experts, we might not have vaccines for children till at least middle to late 2021.

In November, the American Academy of Pediatrics released an article in which they suggested the manufacturers of vaccines include the children in the trials soon. The following video has been covered By CNN and has been taken from the American Academy Of Pediatrics YouTube page, where the president of the American Academy Of Pediatrics can be seen talking about the issue.

Pfizer – a known name in vaccine manufacturing has recently started its trial on older children above 12 years, that’s a good approach as they can start including younger children afterward.
