It is a known fact that children between the age of 2 and 7 years are fast learners, their ability to form complex ideas, deconstruct them, and get accustomed to the new ideas happens at a much-accelerated phase when compared to an average adult. Raising these agile beings right in times of a pandemic can be a daunting task.

With limited distractions to keep them occupied and minimal avenues to invest their energy into; the need to get creative for their parents is something inevitable.

To make times with these kids a bit breezier as the hybrid learning model continues to become an essential part of our lifestyles, here are 5 parenting tactics that will make way for stronger parent-child relationships.

1. Engage them in social learning opportunities

Social learning opportunities are only helpful when you engage with other parents who are going through the same phase, teachers can also support you to plan these activities. It can be over a google hangout or zoom group call or just within your own home.

Something as simple as playing Ludo, discussion on their favourite book, food or hobby can be the first few activities, to begin with.

Anything that helps you build your child’s knowledge apart from their academics and give you an insight into their thought perception will let you get closer to your child.

2. Family time is a must

It is very important for these young ones to understand the value of family or relatives as a structure. They must be comfortable and open with their extended family such as grandparents, cousins, aunts, sisters, nephews, uncles, etc, even if it is via virtual mode like whatsapp video call or facetime.

While the pandemic has brought with it unprecedented challenges and has put everybody on a tight schedule to manage work and home under the same roof.

4. Make a plan for reading

Daily reading time with your children can be established as a long-term good habit, giving you extra time with them. It helps them build critical thinking skills, while the kind of reading can be fiction, non-fiction, or simply a news article.

The effort must be to let them have an open dialogue with you, and get answers to their curiosity from the right source such as their parents. Workbooks and vocabulary books can also be a great addition to daily reading times.

5. Patience will go a long way

The times are tough for everybody; it is the first time for your kids to see you in multiple roles of an office professional, home-maker, parent, teacher and so much more. Patience is an important virtue that will go a long way for both children and parents.
