kids started with meditation

All a parent wants is a happy and healthy life for their child. They find tons of ways to keep the child healthy, happy, safe, and protected from unwanted problems or situations. As a parent, you may have tried various things for your kid’s healthy life, such as great food, enrolling them in tons of activities, proper lifestyle, and many such things. But we recommend one thing which you should add to your child’s lifestyle and which promises to give lifelong returns. We recommend you include meditation in your child’s lifestyle. It should be introduced to kids at an early age so that they can enjoy the benefits of meditation for the rest of their life.

Meditation is a method of training attention and awareness and achieving a cognitively clear emotionally peaceful and stable state via the application of a technique such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a specific object, thought, or activity.

Meditation can be practiced every day by your child to increase their attention power and mindfulness.

Here are the eight reasons why your kid should practice meditation –

  1. Meditation induces an excellent sleep cycle, so if you have a teen kid who has a disrupted sleep cycle, then they should try mediation.
  2. As mentioned earlier, meditation is one of the best practices to improve attention span and focus.
  3. It helps in reducing anxiety and stress and will calm down your kid.
  4. It induces empathy and self-awareness as well.
  5. Meditation is excellent for good mental health.

Now, if you are eager to introduce meditation in your child’s daily routine, then here are some tips –

  1. Practice meditation together – If you want to teach your toddler or preschool kid to practice mediation, you must do it first. Small age kids are all about copying or imitating everything from what they see their parents or caretaker doing. So, if you start meditating with them, most likely, they will cooperate with you to do mediation.
  2. Interesting ways – If you want to make mediation interesting for your toddler, you can tell them to imagine as if they are trying to blow a balloon. Tell them to breathe slowly and steadily as if the balloon is blowing big now; tell the kid to slowly breathe out so that balloon is in its place and does not pop. You can tell your kid to imagine this whenever they are angry or upset. With this method, even if they don’t understand the concept of meditation just yet, they can just practice this with imaginary methods.
  3. Quiet place – You need to create a tranquil and soothing environment for your kid if they are beginners to meditation. In the beginning, they will need a very quiet place to focus easily without any disturbance. The key here is to teach your kid to ignore all the noise and imagine a peaceful place in their thoughts.
  4. Muscle relaxation – This is also an excellent practice for beginners and children, especially those who are stressed quite often or do not have a good sleep cycle. Make a cozy environment for your kid and tell them to lie down. Tell them to start breathing deeply and to be aware of their breath. As they are now aware of the breathing, instruct them to follow what you say. After which, you can instruct them to do certain muscle relaxing exercises such as stretches.
  5. Routine – It is essential to set a routine so that your child does the meditation every day. For preschool kids or toddlers, it can be a few minutes per day; for elementary school kids, it can be twice a day, and for teenagers and adults, it can be a long time or whenever they prefer or are stressed.
  6. Break time – You can introduce meditation to your kid as break time or time out. You can tell them to do meditation when they take a break from their homework.
  7. Stories – You can tell them to hear mindful and thoughtful stories while meditating. This way, meditation can be interesting to them as well.
  8. Applications – You can use various apps for your kids to guide them with mediation. One of the favorite apps for meditation is headspace.
